BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – American Airlines is set to roll out expanded capacity on local flights starting in June, according to Burlington airport officials.
They say the increased capacity will be on the carrier’s existing flights to Charlotte, Chicago, and Philadelphia, including the introduction of a second daily flight to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
Officials say the changes will represent a 50% increase in capacity compared to last summer. They say the change, along with the commitments of other airlines means total capacity in August is poised to increase by nearly 26% over last summer.
The increased capacity comes after longtime carrier Jet Blue ended service in January as part of an agreement with other airlines to reduce flights into New York in light of ongoing air traffic control labor shortages.
