Summary

  • Allegiant’s longest route is 2,034 miles from Las Vegas to Orlando. Seats range from 1,248 to 1,404.
  • Cincy to LAX is 1,900 miles, 2nd longest for Allegiant. Seats up to 1,596 on this flight.
  • Third longest route is from Provo to Orlando, covering 1,898 miles.

Allegiant Air (or just Allegiant) is a major US airline headquartered in Las Vegas. It runs an ultra-low-cost business model (so its low fares are typically paired with more add-on fees). Allegiant was founded in 1997 and today has just over 1% of the US aviation market share. Interestingly, Allegiant focuses on unusual routes where it doesn’t compete with other airlines on 85% of those routes. According to Cirium, an aviation analytics company, these are the top five longest Allegiant domestic routes in the United States (all these flights have return flights).

1

Allegiant’s longest route is from its main hub at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas to Orlando Sanford International Airport near Orlando, Florida. This is a curious route as both cities are famous as being two of the biggest tourist-focused cities in the United States. While Vegas is noted for its casinos and gambling, Orlando is noted for its theme parks and more family-friendly attractions.

Allegiant does not enjoy this route by itself. Frontier and Spirit (two other low-cost American carriers) also operate on this route with nonstop flights. The flight time is around 4 hours and 45 minutes with flights starting from around $68 one way without any add-ons.

2

Cincinnati to Los Angeles

At 1,900 miles, Cincinnati to LAX is the second-longest flight operated by Allegiant.

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport serves the Cincinnati tri-state area and is one of the fastest-growing cargo airports on the continent. It is located in Kentucky, close to Ohio and Indiana. Allegiant’s flight from Cincinnati to Los Angeles (LAX) is the airline’s second-longest flight (only 2 miles longer than the third-longest).

As with the Orlando route, Allegiant is not alone on this route. Other airlines operate nonstop flights from Cincinnati to Los Angeles, and Delta Air Lines also has regular flights on the route. The flight time is around 4 hours and 30 minutes. The route is served by an Airbus A319. Allegiant generally offers the lowest-cost fares on this route, although the fares are not always the cheapest when baggage or other add-ons are included.

Distance:

1,898 miles

1,674 seats

The third-longest Allegiant route is from Provo Airport to Orlando Sanford International Airport near Orlando. The flight time is around 4 hours and 30 minutes. It seems Allegiant is the only airline operating on this route (although fares can also be booked with Breeze that include a stop). Only Allegiant, Breeze, and American Eagle operate out of the small Provo Airport, with the bulk of the air traffic going to the much larger nearby Salt Lake City International Airport.

Allegiant offers other destinations from Provo, including Las Vegas, Nashville, Orange County, Chicago-Midway, Phoenix, Portland, and others. Provo is Utah’s fourth-largest city and is located 43 miles south of Salt Lake City. The combined Provo-Orem metropolitan area is Utah’s second-largest. Whereas Salt Lake City International Airport served around 27 million passengers in 2023, Provo served only around 800,000.

4

Grand Rapids to Los Angeles

Allegiant operates many flights from Grand Rapids; the longest is to Los Angeles.

Route:

Grand Rapids (Michigan) to Los Angeles

Distance:

1,874 miles

Seats:

1,440 seats

Allegiant seems to be the only airline serving the Grand Rapids Gerald R. Ford International Airport to Los Angeles LAX route with nonstop flights. The Grand Rapids airport is about 13 miles southeast of the city center. As with Allegiant’s other longest flights – the flight time is around 4 hours and 30 minutes.

The fifth-longest domestic Allegiant route is also from Michigan’s Grand Rapids Gerald R. Ford International Airport. It also appears Allegiant has this route to itself, with competitors offering flights with at least one stop. Some other airlines, like Frontier, are cost-competitive, but they take around 8 hours with the connecting flight.

Portland is a significant hub for Alaska Airlines, which offers flights to many destinations in the United States and some international destinations as far away as the United Kingdom. The airport is also shared with the military with the Oregon Air National Guard having a base on the southwest portion of the airport and is home to the 142nd Fighter Wing (operating F-15s).
