Summary

  • Delta’s Million Miler Program offers lifetime status based on miles flown, starting at 1 million miles.
  • Million Miler status grants exclusive rewards, including Medallion status, upgrades, and personalized gifts.
  • Multiple ways to earn miles towards Million Miler status, including flights, credit card spending, and partner programs.

The Delta Air Lines Million Miler Program is designed for travelers to achieve top status with the airline after flying millions of eligible miles. Flying a million miles with an airline is quite a feat; the reward is nothing less than a lifetime status with the airline.

The world’s largest airline by revenue and one of the oldest operating airlines calculate the actual distance, in miles, flown by the passenger to determine eligibility for a Million Miler status. One caveat to the equation is the exclusion of Basic Economy fares, which are not counted towards the Million Miler eligibility.

Having a million miler status with Delta Air Lines is an achievement in and of itself. In addition to the Medallion status, new million milers are entitled to complimentary upgrades, expedited baggage, and SkyTeam Elite status. Diamond status members also receive complimentary CLEAR membership, President’s Circle Hertz status, and 3 Choice benefits.

According to Delta Air Lines,

“Members will receive a celebratory welcome email within 24 hours of achieving a new Million Miler tier address listed on the Member’s SkyMiles account, and the email will also include the link to our Million Miler gift site. Complimentary annual status will be processed alongside this email. Members will receive their Million Miler bag tags within four to six weeks of their milestone, mailed to the address on their SkyMiles profile.”

Notably, travelers get a 90-day window after each new Million Miler milestone to select the gift of their choice. If the gift is not selected within that time, Delta Air Lines sends a pre-selected gift to the traveler’s mailing address on the SkyMiles account.

Medallion Status criteria and validity

  • Million Miler status is calculated on total flight miles
  • Flown by the member over the lifetime
  • Beginning January 1, 2024, the Million Miler balance excludes Basic Economy fares
  • Any MQMs already earned toward Million Miler Status remain in the account.

Delta Air Lines states that the Medallion Status is valid within the earned year, from February 1 to January 31. As such, any benefits earned with the status are also valid within the year and awarded annually. It is worth mentioning that the awarded Million Miler Medallion Status is only receivable by the member and cannot be transferred to another member. The earned MQDs within the qualifying year are independent of the awarded status. According to Delta Air Lines,

“Members who receive complimentary Medallion Status in connection with Million Miler benefits, and who also simultaneously earn the same level of complimentary Status or higher through the published Status requirements, will not be upgraded to a higher Medallion Tier.”
