Summary

  • Emirates will fly the A380 to 50 destinations from July to September.
  • One in three of Emirates’ Dubai flights is on the superjumbo.
  • In those three months, the airline has over two-thirds of all A380 services worldwide.

Emirates has 116 A380s, but not all of them are active. The superjumbo accounts for 45% of the airline’s fleet – nearly half. When only passenger jets are included, it rises to 47%. Reflecting the different extent and nature of demand for where the A380 is flown, Emirates has seven different seat configurations. The most unusual and extreme is the no-first-class, two-class, 615-seat layout.

Where the A380 will fly

Many airlines make the most money in the all-important third quarter (July-September). In these three months in 2024, Emirates will fly the A380 to 50 destinations from Dubai.

Some 19 airports are in Europe, 17 in Asia-Pacific, six in North America, four in Africa, three in the Middle East, and one in South America. Europe has the most departures (42%).

Up to 78 daily departures from Dubai

From July to September, Emirates has between 76 and 78 daily A380 departures from its Dubai hub (double for both ways). Only non-stop services are included to ensure there’s no double counting.

In Q3, the airline has over two-thirds of all superjumbo flights worldwide. That domination level is entirely unsurprising because Emirates, of course, has by far the world’s largest A380 fleet.

The A380 will operate on about one of three Emirates departures from Dubai. The Boeing 777-300ER is firmly number one (61%), followed by the A380 (34%), the 777-200LR (just under 5%), and finally, the brand-new A350-900, which has its first revenue-generating service on September 15.
