A Malaysia Airlines flight bound for Kuala Lumpur from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad faced a mid-air technical issue early Thursday morning, prompting an unscheduled return to the airport. Flight MH 199, carrying 138 passengers, took off at 12:45 am local time but encountered a problem with one of its engines shortly after departure.

Safety protocols prompt return

Airport sources confirmed that the decision to turn back was made due to safety protocols after the pilot detected the issue during the climb. The flight, originally landed safely back in Hyderabad at 3:21 am, where emergency procedures were immediately enacted. The aircraft remains grounded at present for thorough inspection.

In a statement, Malaysia Airlines clarified that no emergency was declared during the incident. The spokesperson mentioned, “Flight MH 199 from Hyderabad to Kuala Lumpur returned to Hyderabad due to an issue with one of the engines during the climb after take-off.” All passengers and crew disembarked safely upon landing, and affected passengers are being accommodated on alternative flights for their onward journey.
