MSY Director of Aviation Kevin Dolliole spoke about the new service in the airline’s route announcement:

“We are thrilled that Alaska Airlines is launching nonstop service from New Orleans to Portland. Portland has been the top unserved destination from New Orleans, and this new route not only strengthens the connection between our vibrant cities but also underscores our commitment to enhancing the travel experience for our community and visitors alike.”

Daily departures

New Orleans was one of the carrier’s largest unserved U.S markets, with the Chief Aviation Officer at the Port of Portland, Dan Pippenger, noting in the airline’s announcement that tens of thousands of travelers fly indirectly between the two cities yearly. They expect the number to grow, given there will be a direct service from the region to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY). Travelers looking to be onboard can expect the below schedule:

  • AS1266 will depart Portland at 09:05, arriving in New Orleans at 15:30
  • AS1267 then returns from New Orleans at 16:35 and arrives back in Portland at 19:50

Portland will join Seattle as the airline’s second route to New Orleans, with Alaska already serving the ‘Paris of the South’ (New Orleans) with a daily service, also with the 737-900ER:

  • AS568 departs Seattle daily at 11:22, touching down in New Orleans at 17:56
  • AS569 then returns from New Orleans at 18:56 and arrives back in Seattle at 22:00

Alaska will remain the sole carrier on both these routes and will face no direct competition.

An exciting future for Portland

Alaska Airlines continues to design its new Portland Alaska Lounge, which is expected to open in 2026 and will be almost 14,000 square feet in size. This will be double the seating of its current space, and members will enjoy barista-brewed coffee courtesy of Stumptown. Complimentary beer, wine, and spirits will also be on offer, allowing you to kick back and relax before your next flight.

Alaska is firmly committed to growing its Portland base. With several services already set to launch this year, the carrier has grown its presence in Portland with nonstop services to Nashville and Atlanta to join from October 1. Additional services have also been added to some of its more popular routes, including Anchorage, Ontario, Reno, and Santa Rosa.

Passengers onboard Alaska Airlines flights can enjoy the most legroom in first class (excluding lie-flat legacy carriers) and premium class. The airline also has one of the most generous loyalty programs and multiple fare offerings to cater to any type of traveler.
