Summary
- American Airlines adds nonstop flights from New York LaGuardia Airport to Orlando, New Orleans, and West Palm Beach.
- The carrier routes begin just before the Thanksgiving Holiday.
- American will face competition from Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, and others on these routes.
American Airlines is making more changes to its fall flight schedule. Late last week, the carrier added nonstop flights from its hub at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in New York to New Orleans, Orlando, and West Palm Beach.
The changes come as the airline is also planning to cut one of its very few international routes from LGA. American has recently served Orlando and West Palm Beach within the last four years, while service to New Orleans has not been offered in more than 15 years.
Beginning in November
Aviation routes analyst Adrian Waltz first reported the news on X late Friday. Data from aviation analytics firm Cirium further reveals that the airline will utilize the Airbus A320 to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY), while the Boeing 737-800 will be deployed to Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Palm Beach International Airport (PBI).

The carrier will commence the routes on November 5th, just in time for the busy holiday travel season. According to aviation journalist Enilria, American last flew the LGA-MCO route in 2021, and flights to PBI were last offered in 2020. Service to New Orleans is returning after a lengthy hiatus, as the airline previously flew the route in 2008.
Flight details
The MSY route will have one daily flight. Throughout November, American will operate a total of 52 flights on the route – 26 in each direction.

The 737-800 carries slightly more passengers than the A320 with 172 seats onboard. First class has 16 seats in a 2-2 layout, while the main cabin has 156 seats, with 24 Main Cabin Extra seats. Both routes to MCO and PBI will each have a total of 17,888 seats scheduled in November – a whopping 10,000 seats more than the MSY route.
Competition from four other airlines
American will not be the only carrier to operate the three routes. The Fort Worth, Texas-based airline will go head-to-head with Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines, which currently operate LGA-MSY. Delta, JetBlue Airways, and Spirit Airlines fly the LGA-MCO route, while Delta and JetBlue connect LGA to PBI.
As American prepares to return the three flights, it plans to cut one route from LGA. In September, the airline will drop service to Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA) in Aruba. The Saturday-only flight is reportedly a US Customs Border Protection (CBP) perimeter rule exception flight. It is also American’s only international route operated by a mainline aircraft. Other international flights to Canada are operated by regional airlines under the American Eagle brand.
