If you are a low-cost carrier, the more seats you can cram on the plane, the better. However, for full-service airlines, such as Delta Air Lines, the better option is to have more premium seats that bring higher yields per passenger. Looking after premium passengers is an art in itself, with everything from the lie-flat bed to the food and the pillow under scrutiny, even including the quality of the amenity kits.
This week, Delta Air Lines (Delta) announced it was adding some Italian luxury style to its Delta One experience. That style is coming in the form of a new partnership Delta has formed with Italian luxury fashion house Missoni and will extend to Delta One amenity kits and customized elements of the new Delta One Lounge at New York JFK.

Missoni is a brand known for its creative use of colors and patterns, which the airline believes will further differentiate the premium Delta One experience. The new Delta One amenity kits will feature Missoni’s signature textured zigzag pattern on the outside of the bag while the same intentional design continues inside the bag.

The Delta and Missoni teams created an exclusive pattern and color palette, which the airline said celebrates the view from the window at 30,000 feet while paying homage to Delta’s nearly 100-year flying heritage. Talking about the new designs, Delta Vice President – Brand Experience Design, Mauricio Parise said:
“We’ve been intentional about creating a Delta One experience – both on the ground and in the air – that feels truly premium and elevated, and Missoni’s elegance and prestige aligns perfectly with that vision. The Missoni-designed amenity kits, along with unique design elements that will be featured in our Delta One Lounge at JFK, will offer a distinct, high-end enhancement to our most premium spaces.”
Once they look inside, passengers will find Gown Alchemist skin care products, a bamboo toothbrush, toothpaste (Marvis toothpaste coming October 2024), an eye mask, ear plugs, socks and a pen. To make them feel even more at home, Delta One passengers will also enjoy the airline’s exclusive Delta One Bedding collection, featuring a cozy duvet, large sleeping pillow and slippers.

Delta recognizes the growth in passengers seeking premium travel experiences. To meet some of that demand, it is expanding the Delta One cabin on its fleet of Airbus A350-900 widebodies. That expansion will add eight more lie-flat suites to the long-haul jet, with the first modified A350-900 in this new configuration expected to enter service in the Summer of 2024.
Once completed, the A350s will have a capacity of 275 passengers, including 40 Delta One Suites, 40 seats in Delta Premium Select, 36 extra-legroom seats in Delta Comfort+ and 159 Main Cabin seats. That’s 116 seats that cost a premium over the Main cabin, splitting the payload into 42% premium and 58% economy fares.
