The shackles are well and truly off in Asia, with most airlines operating at or above pre-COVID levels and adding more capacity to high-demand routes, such as between Singapore and China. Today, Singapore Airlines announced it is launching daily flights between the island nation and China’s Beijing Daxing International Airport, adding to its existing Beijing Capital International Airport services.

Two options in Beijing

Singapore Airlines, a member of the Singapore Airlines Group, released details today about its new service between Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) and Beijing Daxing International (PKX). The daily service will commence on November 11, 2024, subject to regulatory approvals, and provide an option for travelers heading south of Beijing, including to the Hebei and Tianjin regions.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) is also increasing flight frequency to Beijing’s other airport, Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK). Commencing on August 5, 2024, SIA will increase its weekly services from Singapore Changi to Beijing Capital to 21, up from the 18 it currently operates.

Singapore Airlines and Scoot have been the standout performers in Asia in the post-pandemic period and are still growing.

With the addition of flights to Beijing Daxing and the extra services to Beijing Capital, SIA will operate 28 services per week to China’s capital city from November 2024. The Singapore Airlines Group, including low-cost carrier Scoot, will serve 24 destinations in mainland China, with SIA flying to eight and Scoot to 17 destinations.

SIA will be flying its Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners from Singapore to Beijing Daxing, configured in a two-class layout of 337 seats, including 36 in business class and 301 in the economy cabin. Singapore Airlines Acting Senior Vice President Marketing Planning Dai Haoyu said that China is a key market for the Singapore Airlines Group.

“This new flight to Beijing Daxing allows SIA to offer an additional daily service to Beijing, a popular destination for both tourist and business travelers. With 24 destinations in the group’s mainland China network, we offer some of the best options and connections for travel between Singapore and China, and beyond.”

The current services to Beijing Capital use a mix of Airbus A350-900s and Boeing 777-300ERs, with the 787-10 Dreamliner to operate between September 1 and October 26 this year. Yesterday, SIA flight SQ802 departed Singapore at 08:42 and, after a 5:39-hour flight, landed at Beijing Capital (PEK) at 14:21.

The flight was operated with a 2009 Boeing 777-300ER, registration 9V-SWT and MSN 34585. The aircraft departed Beijing Capital at 18:16 and arrived in Singapore at 23:38 before being readied for an early morning departure to Zurich Airport (ZRH) in Switzerland. Last week, this aircraft operated flights to Paris, Zurich, Shanghai, New York JFK, Frankfurt, Jakarta and Tokyo Narita, among other destinations.

The new daily SQ810 route to Beijing Daxing will depart Singapore at 00:30 and arrive in Beijing at 06:35, with the return SQ811 service departing at 09:25 and landing at Singapore Changi at 15:50. From November, SIA will be offering flights from Singapore to Beijing (Capital), Beijing (Daxing), Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Xiamen.

The group’s low-cost carrier, Scoot, will serve 17 ports in China. These destinations include Changsha, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Haikou, Hangzhou, Jinan, Kunming, Nanchang, Nanjing, Nanning, Ningbo, Qingdao, Shenyang, Tianjin, Wuhan, Xi’an and Zhengzhou.
