Summary
- The Gulfstream G800 offers a range of 8,000 NM at speeds for efficient long-haul flights.
- Annual operating costs include fixed costs around $1.43m, with variable costs per flight hour at $7,976.
- The total annual operating cost ranges from $2.22 million for 100 hours/year to $4.62 million for 400 hours/year.
The Gulfstream G800 will be the newest member of the company’s line of ultra-long-haul business jets after it enters service this year. The 8,000-NM (14,800 km) range jet was unveiled to the public during the October 2021 NBAA conference. Gulfstream initially planned deliveries of the jet in 2023, which was later moved to “early 2024”.
The manufacturer still awaits Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification, after which deliveries of the jet can begin. Slightly shorter than the G700, the G800 shares cabin size with the G650, but boasts a spaciously designed interior with four living areas. The G-800 is priced at $72.5 million.
Expected operating costs of the G800
Cabin specifications
- Living Areas: Up to 4
- Seats: Up to 19
- Sleeps: Up to 10
- Cabin Altitude: 2,916 ft at 41,000 ft
- Gulfstream Panoramic Oval Windows: 16
- Galley: Forward
- Vacuum Lavatory: Forward and Aft
The annual cost of operating a Gulfstream G800 varies between $2.2 million and $4,6 million depending on the usage. Without taking capital cost (cost of purchase, fractional ownership, or lease) into account, the operating cost can be broken down into fixed costs and variable costs. Fixed cost includes aircraft insurance, periodic modernization, storage, personnel, and training.

JetAdvisors, an analytic and consultant company for private jets, suggests that the cost of insurance and personnel (pilots, flight attendants, and technicians) is the greatest among all fixed costs. This is particularly true in the first few years since the aircraft will be a brand-new edition to the market. While the storage facility costs are pretty standard, aircraft modernization will be fairly low in the beginning. JetAdvisors states an estimate of the annual fixed costs for the Gulfstream G800.
Annual fixed costs | |
---|---|
Aircraft insurance | $273,415 |
Aircraft modernization | $86,462 |
Storage facility | $173,902 |
Personnel (pilots, flight attendants, contractors, technicians) | $765,679 |
Training | $127,767 |
Total fixed cost/year | $1,427,225 |

How Far Will The Gulfstream G800 Fly?
Passengers aboard the G800 will enjoy best-in-class range, speed, and comfort.
As noticed from the table above, the annual fixed cost is approximately $1.43 million. Notably, the cost of insurance includes liability and hull, maintenance of software, and other miscellaneous services that may occur during routine operations. Personnel costs include pilot salaries (at least two), flight attendant salaries, and cost of hiring contractors and technicians for routine checks. There is training cost involved for the training of flight crew and maintenance technicians.

Variable costs are calculated by the hour, providing a more accurate estimate based on the aircraft use. The largest costs are fuel and other trip costs associated with airport and facility fees. The G800’s engines are some of the most fuel efficient engines on the market. According to Gulfstream Aerospace,
“Next-generation Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines team up with Gulfstream’s aerodynamic wing and advanced avionics to power you to new destinations, faster, while delivering impressive fuel-efficiency.”
The total variable cost per flight hour is estimated to be approximately $7,976. The table below shows the breakdown of hourly variable costs
Variable costs per hour | |
---|---|
Fuel | $3,257 |
Maintenance programs | $1,607 |
Maintenance labor | $294 |
Parts | $155 |
Miscellaneous trip cost | $2,957 |
Total variable cost/hour | $7,976 |

Total operating costs
As previously mentioned, the annual operating cost of a Gulfstream G800 varies based on use. With the annual fixed costs of $1.43 million, the cost of flying the jet for 100 hours a year, at 7,976/hour, will be $2.22 million. Greater usage of the aircraft will cost nearly $3.02 million for 200 hours annually, and $4.62 million for 400 hours annually. And once again, the estimates do not include the capital cost (ownership, lease, etc.).
