The Critical Role Of Hybrid Electric Tech In The Future Of Green Aviation
We can expect some game-changing shifts to come.
Where is FLYJETS in the private jet sector?
Our initial focus was on thoroughly understanding the competitive landscape to understand FLYJETS’ place within the private aviation industry fully. Jessica Fisher played a crucial role in offering us valuable insights into FLYJETS’ position in the industry, providing a better understanding of how the company fits within the broader private aviation sector.
“I don’t believe that FLYJETS has any competitors because our company and app are unique, and we work with everyone in the industry. We essentially built a platform similar to Airbnb and made it dynamic to accommodate jets and rapidly changing aircraft schedules.”
How does it work on the back end?
After that, she detailed how the website manages requests and displays the range of available jets to the customer, similar to how hotel or home booking services operate.
“Our system can accommodate automated uploads—via a system that reads and organizes aircraft availability for each owner and operator—and manual uploads of charter inventory. We categorize availability as “charter availability,”—which means that there’s an available plane sitting in some location X, and it can go anywhere—or as “charter flights, “which are essentially empty legs.
She explained that manual uploading of aircraft and availability in the beta was a bit inconvenient as it was pretty time-consuming, so last year, the company introduced another way of uploading aircraft availability: automated scheduling.
“We launched our automated scheduling system last year. The program is essentially a C-sharp script: it’s not artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML). It’s a human language script that “thinks” like a robot. It’s as if you applied the logic of a human scheduler to a series of aircraft schedules and ran that logic on a large number of aircraft (those in the FLYJETS system) every five minutes. That shows it works.”
“Let’s use the Teterboro to Opa Locka route as an example. There is a plane in our database sitting at Republic Airport, which is near Teterboro, and it is available for two weeks; that plane will appear as available in the FLYJETS app as long as it is available per the operator’s availability and rules and can reroute from Republic to Teterboro to pick up passengers. We can then make the plane “o” for the user.

The future of FLYJETS
On June 24th, the company released its newest offering, FLYJETS+, via an Instagram post; here’s what it said.
“With our new FLYJETS + system, Flyers can access auction (bid/offer) and FLY Empty (creation of in-network empty legs) features for efficient and often discounted prices across hundreds of aircraft and charter routes. Auction bidding starts at 20% below ask, and, when successfully matched between users on opposing charter routes, ”FLYEmpties”result in discounts of ~ 40% below outright pricing.”

When asked about the new concept, this is what their CEO had to say,
“FLYJETS + takes our core marketplace and enables two layers of automated “rice elasticity” for Flyers and Aircraft Providers via our auction (bid/offer) and FLY Empty features. The core FLYJETS marketplace accurately matches Flyers and Aircraft Providers and prices aircraft exactly or in an approximate way (within about 5% or less of actual quoted prices).”

Sustainability at FLYJETS
The aviation industry and, more specifically, private aviation continues to be targeted by environmental and public opinion for not acting enough and climate change, but a lot of key players are adapting to this and are acting in a collective effort to make aviation greener – we, therefore, asked Jessica what FLYJETS had in store in terms of sustainability, and this is what she had to say.

“FLYJETS is looking to solve a utilization problem – our goal is to do that in a very green way via our FLYGreen program, part of which offers an open offset calculator on the FLYJETS website. In the very near future, we intend to add sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) redemptions to this calculator, as well.”
“Sustainable aviation fuel is the future, but SAF redemptions are needed hugely to get to that future. To create an efficient market for SAF, the aviation industry must enable requisite logistical efficiencies and the scale required for SAF to become standard. FLYJETS hopes to help in this process via our FLYGreen program and offset (and future SAF redemption) calculator.”

The bottom line
FLYJETS distinguishes itself in the private aviation sector through innovative solutions and a solid commitment to sustainability. By harmonizing efficiency with environmental responsibility, the platform sets a benchmark for the future of travel. Its unique approach, treating private jets much like properties on Airbnb, offers unparalleled accessibility and convenience to users. With features like automated scheduling and FLYJETS+, the company simplifies the booking process and promotes substantial cost savings.
The introduction of the FLYgreen project underscores their dedication to reducing the ecological footprint of private flights, aiming to revolutionize the industry by improving utilization and championing sustainable aviation fuel. FLYJETS is not just redefining private travel; it is the sector moving towards a more sustainable and customer-centric future.
