  • The Club SFO opened at San Francisco International Airport earlier this week.
  • The luxurious lounge features Northern California roots, including Redwood-inspired walls and locally-sourced food.
  • It is the first lounge within The Club lounge network to achieve LEED Gold certification.

Just one week after the final section of Harvey Milk Terminal 1 opened at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), a luxurious space for frequent travelers welcomed its first guests earlier this week. A new lounge, ‘The Club SFO,’ is San Francisco’s newest airport lounge, and has Northern California roots.

The space was designed and constructed by Airport Dimensions, a global specialist in airport enhancements. The company also partnered with architecture and design firm Corgan to feature stunning highlights of localization.

“Moments of comfort and rejuvenation”

The Club SFO embraces the idea of creating a space where travelers can resonate with their local surroundings. Its “Northern California Natural” theme incorporates double-height floors in the lounge’s lobby, which mimic the iconic Redwood trees, known as the world’s largest and tallest trees. The lighting in the space is designed to resemble light shining through a canopy, providing a modern, yet calming ambiance.

At over 12,000 square feet and a maximum occupancy of 250 guests, the lounge offers various amenities, including relaxation, productivity, and rejuvenation spaces. Nancy Knipp, the President of Americas at Airport Dimensions, spoke about opening the new lounge.

“The Club SFO showcases Airport Dimensions’ expertise in crafting unique airport havens, welcoming travelers to enjoy moments of comfort and rejuvenation at this West Coast travel hub. The Club SFO marks a strengthening of The Club network, offering an enhanced traveler experience. This space boasts a distinct design, staying true to The Club’s ethos of local-first, with amenities that go above and beyond. We are thrilled to welcome travelers into this innovative space.”

First-of-its-kind features

With wellness as a priority, The Club SFO has two lululemon mirrors with content developed by Peloton Interactive, a New York-based exercise and media company. There are also first-of-its-kind luminescence rooms, which are individual sanctuaries where guests can be reenergized with adjustable temperature lighting.

The airport is home to around 20 lounges.

The culinary scene features a wine list comprising 100% Northern California wines, while food, from fruits to bread, is sourced locally. The front of the lounge has a micro-climate fireplace, another first-of-its-kind element. Designed to create the illusion of a campfire, the fireplace is engulfed in a temperature-controlled space that is slightly warmer than other areas in the lounge, to provide a warm welcome literally.

It is not made of natural fire, but rather water vapor. Since the lounge is the first within The Club network to achieve the prestigious LEED Gold certification, it boasts sustainability. According to Airport Dimensions, the lounge uses energy-efficient systems and technologies, comprehensive recycling and composting, and water-efficient systems.

“The perfect edition”

The Club SFO is located in the B concourse of the Harvey Milk Terminal. As part of the terminal’s renovation, all travelers can now access the concourse post-security checkpoint.

“We are thrilled to welcome travelers to The Club SFO in Harvey Milk Terminal 1,” said SFO Director Ivar C. Satero. “Having a premium lounge concept – one that is available to all customers – is the perfect addition to our newest award-winning terminal, and supports our goal to create a truly exceptional airport experience for our guests. We appreciate the expertise that Airport Dimensions provides, and are confident they will be successful here at SFO.”
