Seattle Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is a significant economic aviation hub for the Pacific Northwest. It is located in the city of SeaTac, which was named after the airport’s nickname, Sea-Tac. The airport lies nearly midway between downtown Seattle and downtown Tacoma.

Seattle Tacoma, which opened its doors 75 years ago as a small airport, has grown to be one of the largest and most important gateways in the region. Presently, SEA Airport serves as the primary hub for Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines and accommodates approximately 50 million passengers every year. On July 9, 2024, the airport will mark its 75th anniversary. Here are five ways SEA airport is celebrating its birthday.

The logo was unveiled in January 2024

Originally capable of accommodating 900 people per hour, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport was dedicated on July 9, 1949. To commemorate the anniversary, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport began its celebrations and other special events well before the actual date.

On January 24, 2024, the Port of Seattle, owner of the airport, announced that the airport is kicking off its celebration with the unveiling of its special anniversary logo. The unique logo is relatively simple, featuring white and green colors with a large number, 75 in the middle of what could be called a globe. The special anniversary logo also contains the slogan “75 years of service.”

Commenting on the anniversary, Port of Seattle Commission President Hamdi Mohamed, said:

“SEA is excited to take a journey through 75 years of history and stories that have shaped the airport’s role in the community. In 1942, the Port of Seattle answered a growing call to build a new airport that would serve civilians and support economic activity for the region. Now, 75 years later, SEA continues to meet the call to serve our customers and region in a meaningful way.

“This includes the opportunity for more than 23,000 quality airport jobs and $22.5 billion in total economic impact. This year will be an excellent opportunity to honor the ongoing commitment to promoting economic opportunities and quality of life.”
