American carrier – Delta Air Lines is set to launch a pilot base in Boston. The new base will be the first one the airline has opened in a considerable while and will be allocated to the carrier’s A330 pilots. The airline has been investing in Boston quite a bit in recent years.
A new pilot base
Delta Air Lines, being one of the US Big Four, has a significant presence across the US, with hubs and bases strategically located at various airports. In an internal memo from Delta flight operations shared on X, Delta pilots received the news that an A330 pilot base will be opening at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).
The memo also explains that this is the airline’s first new base to be opened outside its existing hub structure in a while and that it will be convenient for pilots who consider New England their home.
The memo concludes that this development is part of the airline’s continuing commitment to BOS and the community served by the market.
Simple Flying has reached out to Delta to know more about this new development and how the new base will benefit the airline’s operations in Boston. Any response received will be updated in this article.
Investing in Boston
Boston is a major hub on the US East Coast, and for nearly two decades, Delta Air Lines has operated from BOS, and the airline uses the hub as a major point of operations for its Transatlantic flights.
According to The Points Guy, the airline officially named BOS at one of its hubs in 2019 and quickly focused on expanding its operations and by 2021, it dethroned JetBlue as the largest operator at the airport and, in 2022, decided to make BOS the carrier’s second Transatlantic operations hub after New York (JFK).

The airline has continued growing its presence at the airport by positioning itself as a formidable competitor to JetBlue and American Airlines. While the carrier opened its anticipated Delta One Lounge at JFK last month, it will also open four new premium lounges across various US airports, including Boston.
Additionally, Delta will also launch a seasonal non-stop service from Boston to Honolulu this November, making it the carrier’s longest domestic flight.
