Summary

  • Asiana will fly the A380 on four occasions to Frankfurt in September and November.
  • It last flew there in 2023.
  • The carrier plans seven double-decker routes globally by the end of the year, also including to Barcelona.

Keeping track of Asiana’s A380 plans is frustrating as they often change, and flights can be infrequent. That’s true for Seoul Incheon to Frankfurt, with four roundtrip services – yes, just four – now planned for later this year. The route had Asiana’s double-decker quadjets between 2017 and 2020 and again in 2023.

Seoul to Frankfurt

Asiana’s 495-seat A380s will again be flown to Germany. As of July 5 and subject to change, the latest plan indicates that they’ll be used on September 26, September 30, November 10, and November 15.

While the November dates had been scheduled for some time, those in September are new additions. The exact reasons for such irregular operations are unknown. In all cases, the A380 will replace the 311-A350-900, providing 59% more seats per flight.

Some 12 so-called business suites will be offered (the A350 doesn’t have it), along with 38 more in business (+136%) and 170 more in economy (+69%). However, there will be no premium economy (the A350 has the cabin, but the A380 doesn’t).

Like many airlines, Asiana avoids overflying Russia. As such, its flights cover much more distance than they otherwise would, increasing fuel burn, emissions, duration, en route charges, and so on. In September, the block time to Germany, with headwinds, is 13h 45m – 16% more than the 11h 50m before the war.
