KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) – The city of Kearney is asking the federal government to approve an old carrier to resume service at the Kearney airport.
At a Tuesday meeting, the Kearney City Council voted to recommend SkyWest Airlines to begin flying between Kearney and Denver in November. The Federal Aviation Administration has to approve SkyWest in order to get Essential Air Service subsidies. The approval is considered a formality.
Kearney’s current airline is Key Lime Air, operating as Denver Air Connection, but its contract with the FAA expires Oct. 31.
SkyWest was Kearney’s air carrier prior to 2022. Their current proposal calls for 12 jet flights per week between Kearney and Denver for a three year period starting Nov. 1.
SkyWest was the only bid for the federal contract.
