With airlines starting to look toward the 2024 winter season, Latin American carrier avianca has announced it is resuming the route connecting Chicago to the Colombian capital, Bogota, after a five-year hiatus. On Wednesday, the airline opened ticket sales for the new nonstop route that will commence on October 27, offering more than 2.500 seats weekly.

Another post-COVID restart

Avianca operated the route between Bogota’s El Dorado International Airport (BOG) and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) from 2018 to 2019, and from October, it will resume the route after a five-year suspension with seven weekly flights. The route’s return will strengthen connectivity across the Americas, with seamless connections to Chicago for travelers from South America, Central America and the Caribbean through Bogota.

Stronger connections from avianca

Avianca Airlines Sales Director for North America, Central America and the Caribbean Rolando Damas said the airline is continuing to focus on providing more connectivity and access to new destinations around the world.

“Following our successful launches in Montreal and Paris earlier this year, we are thrilled to introduce the new Bogota-Chicago route. This new route will allow more travelers to connect to the United States through our network and facilitate the arrival of new visitors to Colombia and the rest of our region.”

Damas added that avianca is committed to delivering a refreshed travel experience that prioritizes safety, punctuality and reliable baggage handling. Colombia is the leading South American destination for US travelers, and the new route will boost Colombian tourism and strengthen connectivity with the US, which is the largest source of travelers to Colombia.
