Kazakhstan airlines report 17% rise in passenger traffic since January 2024

Kazakhstan’s airlines have reported a rise in passenger traffic since the start of the year. According to the Ministry of Transport, approximately 5.5mn passengers were transported, marking a 17% increase compared to the same period last year.

Domestic air transportation in Kazakhstan is currently serviced by six airlines operating across 53 routes. These airlines conduct a total of 640 flights per week. To improve transport accessibility to socially significant destinations and promote domestic tourism, 19 domestic air routes across nine regions of the country receive subsidies. This initiative aims to make air travel more accessible and affordable for residents, thereby boosting local tourism and economic activity.

Kazakhstan’s international flight network is also robust, with connections to 29 countries. The nation operates 107 international routes, with a weekly frequency of 619 flights.

Reflecting on the previous year’s performance, from January to December 2023, Kazakhstan’s airlines transported a total of 13.3mn passengers, a 20.7% increase compared to the same period in 2022.

Passenger turnover also showed remarkable growth, reaching 25.9 bn passenger-kilometers, a 28.8% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. 

In the first half of 2024, Uzbekistan’s airports saw a notable increase in passenger traffic as well, with a total of 53,300 flights operated. This included 16,300 domestic flights and 36,900 international flights, representing a 37% rise compared to the same period last year.

From January to June, over 6.4mn passengers were served by the airports. This figure comprised more than 1.3mn passengers on domestic flights and 5.1mn on international flights, marking a 36% increase from the first half of 2023.

Cargo and mail handling also experienced growth, with nearly 40.7 tons managed during the first half of the year, reflecting an 18% increase over the previous year’s figures.

Uzbekistan’s airports now accommodate passenger flights on 84 routes, up by 15% from the same period last year. This expansion is due to the introduction of new air carriers and the launch of several new routes.
