LATAM has released its latest passenger figures, showing a significant increase in passenger traffic compared to last year. Across the LATAM Airlines Group, a total of 6.5 million passengers were carried in June 2024, representing a 10.3% increase on the 5.9 million passengers carried in June 2023.

By far the largest increase was in the number of international passengers, which rose from 1.0 million to 1.2 million over the same period (an increase of 26.7% year-on-year). Operations impacted by flooding in Porto Alegre

LATAM Airlines Brazil’s 3.1% increase in domestic passenger numbers year-on-year comes despite one of the airports in the carrier’s route network being out of action. Porto Alegre–Salgado Filho International Airport (POA) was closed in May 2024 after sustaining damage during severe floods in the area. Undoubtedly, had the airport remained operational, the increase in passenger numbers would have been even larger.

Prior to the closure, LATAM operated an average of 24 flights per day to and from Porto Alegre, and is currently in the process of re-allocating that capacity to other routes. Among the domestic destinations served by LATAM Airlines Brazil from Porto Alegre are São Paulo Congonhas (CGH), Brasília (BSB), and Curitiba (CWB). The airport is expected to reopen in October, at which point, the carrier plans to resume its operations there.
