Simple Flying attended the AIX24 show in Hamburg a month and a half ago. This is the leading cabin innovation show, which takes place each year in the German port city. Seat manufacturers, aircraft OEMs, and other cabin innovators gather to discuss and sell their latest products.
Companies of all shapes and sizes participate in this critical global aviation event.
This year, Simple Flying was invited to visit the Italian seat manufacturer Aviointeriors and test all their seats on display. For more than 50 years, Aviointeriors has designed, certified, manufactured, and delivered high-quality aircraft passenger seats to leading airlines, lessors, MROs, and aircraft OEMs.
They offer a range of seat models that cater to different classes and purposes within the aviation market. In this article, we will go into detail about them:

The Mya long-range is the Italian manufacturer’s economy class long-haul offering. One of its key aspects is modularity. In a document shared by the company with Simple Flying, Aviointeriors had this to say about the product. Hyper versatile and thanks to its modular design, MYA is designed to be fully customizable and accommodate multiple options to fulfill short-medium and long-range configurations.

During our visit, our host, Elena Zizzi, one of the sales managers, had this to say about all the products and how Aviointeriors adapts to the needs of prospective customers.
“We have the facility to have our design or to have it adapted, for example, to the customers.”
Regardless, she explained that the Mya line is ready to adapt to the new demands of narrowbody flights, especially with the dawn of long-haul flights on narrowbody aircraft like the A321XLR.

In addition to the modularity showcased by the sales team during the event, the Mya lineup of seats is also adapted to short-haul flying. It resembles what has become an industry norm, especially in Europe, where the OEM is based. This means a slimmer seat, but it doesn’t mean the chair would be uncomfortable. The economy class line presented the latest innovation in economy class seating.

A new, attractive, ergonomic design with more living space and increased legroom-specific component reductions is needed to make the MYA clever engineering without compromising passenger comfort.
I tried the seat during the demo, and being used to flying on slimline seats; I was initially quite dubious. However, the Italian leather that the padding is made of creates quite an ergonomic feeling—with similar comfort to the long-range iteration of the seat minus the adjustable headrest.
Walking around the competition stands will also show this trend, with airlines having changed their revenue model so that they can now re-invest in more comfortable flights. This is fitting as, on average, narrowbody Airbus and Boeing aircraft now spend more time in the air.

Our hosts explained that it would typically be used as a narrowbody business class seat, especially outside Europe. Still, it can also be marketed as a long-haul premium economy class seat.
In terms of IFE, our host explained there are two options available—the first was the one we sat on for the interview with the IFE, which here was made by Thales, a French company they have a partnership with—and another with a tablet holder, allowing passengers to stream entertainment from their device. Once again, this gives comp customers more flexibility.

What Are The Strategic Implications Of The Airbus A321XLR For Long-Haul Narrowbody Operations?
The introduction of the Airbus A321XLR remains a highly anticipated event, with more than two years having now passed since the type’s first test flight. If successful, the aircraft has the potential to shake up long-haul air travel as we know it, and catalyze the growing trend of intercontinental flights with narrowbody aircraft. This will likely impact the industry both in terms of changes to airlines’ networks, as the A321XLR unlocks more ‘long thin’ routes, and when it comes to onboard seating products, as manufacturers look to make long-haul narrowbody flights as appealing as possible. How do you think the A321XLR will impact aviation?
Here, we briefly got to speak to the CEO, Luca Vetica, who had this to say about the product:
“We have on display Allegra seats in the mock center in Toulouse on the A321 (sic A321XLR). As you told me, the A321 is now a lot longer (sic flies longer flights), and it’s got a very long range. So, passengers need a business class seat that is more comfortable for a longer period and, for those who want a unique experience can enjoy the exclusivity of the Allegra plus.”
We also met the President of Aviointeriors, Carlo Logli: he concluded our visit by saying.
“Aviation is evolving with longer flights, and Aviointeriors offers airlines and excel. It’s a made-in-Italy benchmark, guaranteeing the highest well-being standards”.
