International business class airfares are showing no signs of coming down, and while economy tickets are getting cheaper, the coveted seats at the front of the plane are out of reach for most travelers. Airlines are always looking to add something new, and today, Emirates has literally sweetened the deal with news on its restaurant-above-the-clouds dining experience.
Make your choice
Emirates is expanding its restaurant-above-the-clouds experience by giving business class passengers from all four of Germany’s main gateway airports access to the service. In 2023, Emirates introduced the service to its busiest routes, including Hamburg, and today said it will now also be available on services from Frankfurt (FRA), Munich (MUC) and Dusseldorf Airports (DUS).

The experience allows business class passengers to pre-order inflight meals on more than 100 routes worldwide, and to date, more than 135,000 pre-orders have already been delivered on more than 30,000 flights. Every day, more than 400 meals are pre-ordered by Emirates customers.

On Emirates flights from the four airports in Germany to Dubai International (DXB), some of the dishes that catch the eye include:
- Grilled veal chop with green pepper sauce, grilled courgettes, caramelized fennel and Anna potatoes with herbs
- Roasted chicken with thyme and garlic served with chicken jus with truffle oil, celeriac purée, herbed red potatoes, pearl onions and blanched broccolini
- Fish tahta with pan-seared grouper in Emirati spices served with butter rice and fried onions.
Vegetarians can choose from more than 300 vegan dishes on the changing menu, including roasted cauliflower with ancient grains, lovage pesto with caramelized pear or ragout of Asian tofu and shitake mushrooms with glass noodles. On flight EK50 from Munich to Dubai, operated with an Airbus A380, the appetizers include roasted pumpkin soup, traditional Arabic mezze, or caramelized citrus scallops.
Cut food waste
Yesterday, the flight from Munich to Dubai was operated with a 2012 Airbus A380, registration A6-EEA and MSN 108, and it took 5:48 hours to travel to Dubai. That aircraft has 489 seats, including 14 in first class, 76 in business class and 399 in the economy cabin and is one of 116 A380s in the Emirates fleet.

Food waste is gaining more attention, and the pre-order system significantly reduces uneaten meals from premium cabins. The pre-orders are added to existing AI-supported data to track customer preferences and information from the cabin crew, enabling optimal food loading into the aircraft. The cabin crew uses an onboard app to view meal selections and serve each guest the desired dish.
The new offering is another digital initiative, adding to online check-in via the website or app, the option of a digital boarding pass and itinerary management. Emirates passengers can also register for the Skywards frequent flyer program, access digital menus in advance and create a playlist of films, series and music for inflight entertainment ahead of their flights, which is synchronized with the personal screen onboard using the app.
