PARIS, July 29 (Xinhua) — Air France and Transavia France have suspended their flights to the Lebanese capital Beirut for Monday and Tuesday, due to concerns over the “security situation at the destination,” local media BFMTV reported on Monday.

The suspensions come amid fears of a military confrontation between Israel and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, following a deadly strike on the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights, which Israel has attributed to the Shiite movement.

“Customers affected will be notified individually and offered solutions for postponement or reimbursement,” said a spokesman for the Air France-KLM group, which owns both the French airlines.

He added: “The company constantly monitors developments in the geopolitical situation of the territories served and overflown by its aircraft to ensure the highest level of flight safety and security.”

Tensions along the Israeli-Lebanese border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by Hezbollah towards Israel, in solidarity with the Hamas attack in southern Israel the previous day. Israel retaliated with heavy artillery fire in southeastern Lebanon.
