Summary

  • Emirates is to deploy a second daily A380 to Bali temporarily due to peak summer travel demand.
  • The equipment swap will increase premium cabin capacity (75% boost in First Class seats and 80% in Business Class).
  • Emirates offers extensive connection options in Indonesia via codeshare partnerships with Garuda Indonesia and Batik Air Indonesia.

Dubai-based Emirates Airlines is set to deploy a second A380 on its route to Bali later this year to cope with the peak summer travel demand. The second A380 service will operate seasonally, after which the Boeing 777-300ERs will be returned to the route. Overall, this summer, the airline will be operating four flights to Indonesia across two destinations.

Double daily double-deckers

As the world’s largest operator of the Airbus A380-800, Emirates is set to deploy a second daily A380 on its services between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Denpasar Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Bali, Indonesia. The second A380 will replace the existing EK398/EK399 service currently served by the airline’s fleet of Boeing 777-300ERs.

The airline is making this seasonal change to its operations to ensure sufficient capacity is available on this route between September 1st to October 26th of this year. The existing A380 service on EK368/EK369 remains unaffected. Overall, Emirates will offer over 2,600 additional seats per week on this route, seeing a 75% increase in First Class capacity and an 80% increase in Business Class capacity.

While Emirates has been operating flights to Bali for nearly a decade, it only commenced A380 operations last year and has seen significant success, allowing the carrier to connect passengers via Dubai and Bali. The airline is also the only operator to deploy the Airbus A380 to Bali, making the service all the more special.

While passengers flying with Emirates can choose from these two gateways to which Emirates operates, they also have the option to connect to other Indonesian and regional gateways because of the extensive codeshare partnership maintained by the airline with Garuda Indonesia and Batik Air Indonesia.

Beyond these services, Jetstar Asia (also an Emirates codeshare partner) provides further connections to other regional destinations from both Bali and Jakarta, thereby strengthening the Emirates network in the region.

More destinations soon

While Emirates offers substantial global network coverage from Dubai, it currently has to rely on its partner, flydubai, for connections to secondary and tertiary cities to which the airline cannot justify operating its large 777s and A380s. However, the airline is about to gain some flexibility and profitable access to more routes as Emirates is set to receive its first Airbus A350-900 soon.

The airline has already announced Edinburgh (EDI) as its first A350 destination, which will also be a new destination within the Emirates network, which is set to launch in November (coinciding with the A350’s first flight). With a total of 65 aircraft on order, Emirates could potentially commence services to some new routes and grow its already global route network.
