After a heavy downpour in Delhi-NCR, the Indira Gandhi International Airport has been hit with flight delays. Advisories have been issued by airlines informing passengers about flight delays and their operations being affected.

A sudden downpour in Delhi-NCR led to chaos in the city with power cuts, traffic jams and waterlogging. Reports also surfaced about people drowning. The city recorded over 100 mm of rainfall in just one hour, following which the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a ‘red’ alert.
Last evening, at least 10 flights bound for Delhi airport were diverted due to bad weather. An official, quoted by news agency PTI, stated that the diversions occurred after 7:30 pm because of heavy rainfall. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that the rainy weather will persist until August 5.

Post the chaos ensued by the heavy rainfall, several airlines have issued advisories for their passengers.
At around 5 am today, IndiGo posted on X saying that its departures and arrivals were experiencing delays and could continue through the morning.
Similarly, Air India had informed its passengers of flight delays last evening. It had further asked them to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

As per the data by FlightRadar24, there is an average delay of 26 minutes in departures at the Delhi airport, while the arrivals are seeing an average delay of 6 minutes.
At the time of writing, the average cancellation rate in arrivals was 8%. However, the average cancellation rate in departures was 2%.
The data also reported a 68% delay in departures.
