Tailwind Air has officially closed down it its unprofitable scheduled seaplane operations. The company did not have enough passengers to continue.
The carrier was especially noted for operating downtown Boston – New York seaplane flights.
The company had been searching for a new investor to keep the operations going but the deal fell through.
Tailwind operated scheduled and charter seaplane services from the 23rd Street Seaplane base in Manhattan (NYS).
Tailwind also flew to Boston Logan Airport, Boston Harbor Seaplane Base, Shelter Island, Bridgeport, and the East Hampton Airport and Nantucket Airport.
Tailwind was the only airline that was allowed to land in Boston Harbor. The company even created the airport code for it. For the right investor, this could be a valuable asset as the New York – Boston corridor is among the most-travelled routes.
The company continues to operate charter flights.
