Summary
- Avios earned in AerClub can be spent on all Aer Lingus flights & transferred to all oneworld airlines.
- Use Avios to pay for Aer Lingus flights, upgrades, or travel-related expenses.
- Transferring Avios to British Airways Executive Club or other loyalty programs provides additional spending options.
AerClub is the loyalty program of Aer Lingus. It is one of several programs that use Avios as a loyalty currency. Once earned, Avios can be transferred between these different loyalty programs, opening up many more ways to spend. With AerClub, Avios can be spent on all flights with Aer Lingus. Many other airlines, including all oneworld airlines, can be booked by transferring Avios freely to other programs.
There are also options to use Avios for upgrades on Aer Lingus – often good value on transatlantic flights. There are some generally lower values uses too, including part payment of cash fares with Avios, and for some travel-related spending.
Spending Avios on Aer Lingus reward flights
The most obvious way for members to use Avios is by flying with Aer Lingus. AerClub still operates a traditional fixed-price award scheme, where reward tickets are either available or not at a fixed rate.

This rate depends on the flight distance and the cabin flown. There are peak and off-peak dates for all flights —these are set according to a timetable published by AerClub, roughly meeting peak travel holiday dates and school holidays.

Bookings can be made directly on the Aer Lingus website (you will need to log into an AerClub account to check availability and book). This changed in early 2024 – prior to that, bookings were made using the Avios.com platform. Avios bookings can currently be made only for Aer Lingus flights. This may change – when the avios.com platform was used it was possible to book with British Airways, Iberia, and Vueling as well.
Note that Avios can also be used to book flights on any oneworld alliance member airline by transferring them to another loyalty program. British Airways Executive Club would be a good choice here. It uses a similar banded distance system, with rates for short-haul fights starting at 4,750 Avios.

British Airways Executive Club
Executive Club is the British Airways loyalty program. It uses the Avios point also used by other IAG owned airlines and some of its partners.
Paying any Aer Lingus fare with Avios
Although AerClub uses a fixed price system for award flights, it also now allows members to pay any Aer Lingus fare with Avios – effectively adding a dynamic pricing option as well.
This is only available for flights that are purely Aer Lingus. Avios can be used as part payment for the entire fare, including extras. The value here will not be as good as with standard fixed-price reward seats, but of course, the availability could be much better. Rates are shown only when logged in as a member, with Avios balance.

Use Avios to upgrade Aer Lingus flights
Avios can be used to upgrade a cash economy ticket to business class. This is only possible on Aer Lingus routes between Ireland or the UK and North America. Depending on the available cash fares, this can be a very good value use of Avios.
Note the following about AeClub Avios upgrades:
- Availability is generally based on the same availability as standard Avios reward tickets.
- Note that previously booked reward tickets cannot be further upgraded – only purchased revenue tickets.
- There do not appear to be any restrictions on lower-priced economy tickets. Any fare class can be upgraded for the same amount of Avios.
- Pricing can be high compared to outright booking with Avios. If you have not yet purchased a cash ticket, it is worth comparing different options.
- Currently, these upgrades need to be booked by contacting AerClub. You can get a good idea of availability by checking Avios flight bookings, however.

Transferring Avios to other programs
Remember that as Avios is a shared currency, transfers are possible to any other airline loyalty program that uses them. This currently includes:
- British Airways Executive Club
- Iberia Plus
- Finnair Plus
- Qatar Airways Privilege Club
- Vueling

Move Your Miles: How to Transfer Avios Between Programs
Moving Avios points between all Avios programs doesn’t lose value, and transfers are free and instant.
This opens up many other spending options with these programs. The most notable include:
- Using Avios for any oneworld airline. By transferring into one of the four oneworld programs, Avios can be used for any of the 13 member airlines. There are all distance-based fixed price programs for partner flights, and there are several good value areas. See our guides for more details.

- Book short flights British Airways Executive Club. Executive Club uses a similar band pricing system to AerClub, meaning that shorter flights price lower. These start at 4,750 Avios for the shortest British Airways European flights. The same band pricing applies to all oneworld partners, albeit with slightly higher rates in some cases. Executive Club also offers an attractive Reward Flight Saver scheme for its own flights. This allows taxes and charges to be included for a lower fixed payment on award tickets.

British Airways Executive Club
Executive Club is the British Airways loyalty program. It uses the Avios point also used by other IAG owned airlines and some of its partners.
- Use Avios for upgrades. The oneworld programs all allow use of Avios for upgrades on their own flights. Upgrades on some American Airlines flights are also possible using British Airways Executive Club.
You will usually get the best value out of Avios by using for flights or upgrades. But there are also some other ways to spend Avios if this is not an option for you. Aer Lingus offers an Avios booking portal, where Avios held within AerClub can be used on hotels or car hire. This includes many options for hotels internationally, both with major chain and independent properties. Car hire is offered with Avis and Budget internationally.
Check the value you are getting with these bookings against alternative uses, and against available cash fares. Value can vary – a sample look at hotels in Europe gave us an indicative value of around Euro 0.005 per Avios. You would expect much higher on flight bookings.
