A flight bound for the United States has been forced to divert to Scotland after issuing a mid-air alert.
The United Airlines aircraft departed from Frankfurt in Germany this morning, August 27.
It was due to land at Chicago O’Hare International Airport after a nine-hour journey, however the pilot was forced to divert to Edinburgh Airport at around 9am.
The UA945 flight landed safely in Scotland after issuing a 700 squawk code in mid-air. The nature of the emergency is currently unknown.
The flight map shows the aircraft flying over the east of Scotland near Dundee before making a U-turn to the capital where it landed at around 9.48am.
Edinburgh Airport confirmed it accepted the diversion.
The Record has approached United Airlines for comment.
