Canadian flag carrier Air Canada is ending August with new benefits for members of its frequent flyer program. The updated offerings include easier WiFi connections, increased flexibility on flight passes, and more ways to share elite status perks.

Ways to win and WiFi

The airline is offering a special promotion for Canadian and US residents who use their Aeroplan points for car rentals. The amount ranges based on how many points are used, with elite status members earning an extra 2,500 points back. To enter, just register on the Aeroplan website and book by September 3rd. The points are awarded as follows:

  • 12,500 points back when redeeming 40,000+ points
  • 27,500 points back when redeeming 80,000+ points
  • 52,500 points back when redeeming 150,000+ points

This latest promotion follows an earlier offer this summer in which the carrier gave away one million Aeroplan points to 40 loyalty program members.

Aeroplan 75K and Super Elite Members who chose the Aeroplan Elite WiFi Plan as a Select Benefit can now activate it and use it without signing in. Instead of having to activate the WiFi passes, members now just have to enter their last name and seat number to get connected.

Elite status holders are not the only ones getting new benefits this year. The carrier is also upgrading its economy class experience on flights within Canada and to the US this year with complimentary beer, wine, and premium snacks.

carrier is expanding its popular status program that allows frequent flyers to gift elite status perks to friends, family members, or even colleagues. Status passes as part of the member’s Core and Select Benefits are now valid for a full 12 months from the date they were earned. As always, the status pass must be applied to a booking on or before its expiry, but it can contain flights departing before or after that date.

The change does not apply retroactively to any Status Passes earned up to August 20th, 2024, which will retain their existing validity.

The carrier’s Flight Pass program has also been expanded with options to make it more flexible. The minimum number of flight credits on regularly offered Flight Passes has been reduced to six from the previously required minimum of 10 credits. This includes the popular East West Connector, New York and Boston Commuter, and Rapidair Flight Passes. Passengers can also extend their Flight Passes up to three months in advance.

The updates follow an announcement earlier this summer that Aeroplan members can now earn and redeem points on Lufthansa Group subsidiary Eurowings.
