Centrum Air enters Uzbekistan’s elite airline ranks with new Airbus A321neo

Uzbekistan’s private airline Centrum Air has officially entered the exclusive ranks of airlines operating brand-new aircraft, marking a milestone in its growth and expansion. On August 31, the airline received a new Airbus A321neo, which was put into operation just days later on September 2.

This acquisition is particularly noteworthy as it is the first time Centrum Air has received a new aircraft directly from the manufacturer, distinguishing it from many other carriers that typically acquire used planes.

With this addition, Centrum Air becomes one of only three airlines in Uzbekistan to operate new turbojet aircraft. Prior to this, only the national carrier Uzbekistan Airways and the private airline Qanot Sharq had new mainline aircraft in their fleets.

The new aircraft, designated as A321-271NX with the factory serial number MSN 11996, has been registered locally as UK32131. It is also the first aircraft in Uzbekistan to be equipped with PW1133G geared engines, which are manufactured by Pratt & Whitney, further enhancing its operational capabilities.

While Centrum Air already has another A321neo in its fleet, that aircraft had already been in service for seven years before being leased by the airline. The new A321neo represents an upgrade, stressing Centrum Air’s commitment to modernizing its fleet and enhancing passenger experience.

Centrum Air, which began operating flights in 2023, is the passenger division of a holding that also includes the cargo airline My Freighter. The holding’s total fleet now consists of ten aircraft, including two A321neos and three smaller-capacity A320ceo aircraft. My Freighter operates five wide-body Boeing 767-300F cargo aircraft, reflecting the holding’s diverse operational capabilities.

Most of Centrum Air’s current flights are operated under wet lease contracts for foreign carriers, showcasing its growing international presence. The airline’s own flight network includes regular and charter routes from Tashkent to popular destinations such as Dubai, Istanbul, Tbilisi, Batumi, Sharm el-Sheikh, and Issyk-Kul.
