Delta Air Lines

has upgraded its service between its hubs at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). The carrier has begun operating select flights on the route with the Airbus A330-900neo.

The widebody, the airline’s newest aircraft type, joins a variety of Delta’s aircraft deployed on the route daily. It will operate between the two destinations for a limited time through the beginning of next month.

New A330-900neo service

Delta inaugurated the flights on Monday, according to aviation data and analytics provider Cirium. The plane is not scheduled on daily frequencies, but will operate on the route for more than half of the month. In October, the aircraft is only scheduled on six flights.

According to Aeroroutes, the A330-900neo-operated flights will be DL2286 and DL2466. The former departs from JFK at 06:00 and arrives at ATL at 08:15, while the latter leaves ATL at 10:19 and lands back at JFK at 12:35. Cirium data shows that the aircraft will operate 18 southbound flights and 17 northbound flights this month.

A busy route

The days of operations will be Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday through September 9th. Following that schedule, the flight’s frequencies will take place on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays for the remainder of the month. In total, the A330-900neo will operate 35 flights, offering more than 9,800 seats on the route.

Next month, the aircraft will only fly three times in each direction from October 3rd through 5th. No other flights are scheduled until November when Delta will only operate it once each way as a cameo appearance. Those flights will occur on November 8th, according to Cirium.

The Skyteam Alliance airline primarily operates narrowbody aircraft between JFK and ATL. The route is undoubtedly popular as it has between six and eight daily frequencies. Out of a total of 424 flights scheduled this month, the Boeing 757-200 will operate 132, which is the most out of any other aircraft deployed on the route. The 737-900ER follows with 120 flights, while the A321neo will operate 59 frequencies. Other aircraft operating between JFK and ATL include the A321ceo, A319, A330-200, A330-300, 737-800, and 767-300ER.

What to expect onboard

The A330-900neo accommodates 281 passengers in a three-class layout. Delta One, the carrier’s most premium product, has 29 suites featuring seats that transform into lie-flat beds. They have a width of 22.5 inches and a pitch of 79 to 80 inches when flat. The class is arranged in a 1-2-1 layout, meaning passengers seated near the windows have the most room.

Delta Premium Select, the airline’s version of premium economy, has 28 recliner seats arranged in a spacious 2-3-2 format. The seats have a width of 18.5 inches, while the pitch is 38 inches. The main cabin comprises the remaining 224 seats in a 2-4-2 configuration, albeit 56 seats are Delta Comfort+ seats with up to three inches of increased pitch.

All passengers can enjoy WiFi, USB in-seat power, in-seat power outlets, and personal seatback or bulkhead video – offering satellite TV and numerous movies and TV shows.
