Qantas has announced its intention to launch a new Transpacific route between Melbourne and Honolulu flights from 2025. The 5,405 miles (8,806km) route will be operated by the carrier’s fleet of Airbus A330 twinjets and will operate three times per week from early May 2025. All flights are subject to regulatory approval according to the airline.
The addition of the new direct route between Melbourne in the state of Victoria, Australia, and Honolulu, the state capital of Hawaii went on sale on September 3, 2024. According to the airline. the new service will boost capacity between Australia and Hawaii by adding more than 40,000 seats per year.
Qantas’ new Melbourne to Honolulu A330 flights are due to operate every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from early May 2025. Flight QF105 will depart Melbourne at 17:05 and arrive in Honolulu at 07:40 while the return westbound flight QF106 will leave Honolulu at 09:40 to reach Melbourne at 17:15.
The new flights join other existing services operated by Qantas and its low-cost offshoot Jetstar which collectively fly eight services per week between Sydney and Honolulu services. Sydney to Honolulu is also currently served by Hawaiian Airlines.
As part of a consolidation of services between Australia and Hawaii, and as the new Qantas flights from Melbourne come on stream, Jetstar will cease its current twice weekly Dreamliner 787 Melbourne to Honolulu flights from April 30, 2025, with the aircraft to be deployed on other long-haul routes from the city.
“We are thrilled to continue to enhance our network in America with the launch of a new route from Melbourne to Honolulu, bringing a new, tropical destination to our Melbourne customers,” said Cam Wallace, CEO of Qantas International. “Our new service ensures continued connectivity for Melbournians to Hawaii while enabling Jetstar to redeploy its 787 aircraft to other destinations and long-haul routes.”
The announcement of the Melbourne to Honolulu route coincided with Qantas unveiling an exclusive seven-day-only North and South America ‘Red Tail Sale’, with more than 50,000 seats discounted across the Qantas for sale between September 3 and September 10, 2024. The fares are available for a range of travel periods between October 2024 and June 2025.
