Delta Cargo received the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Center of Excellence for Independent Validator (CEIV) Pharma certification at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York for its cargo handling facility and ground handling services.

“Delta Cargo is the first-ever airline to obtain CEIV Pharma certification at JFK for our ground handling facility and ground handling services – a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence in pharmaceutical logistics,” says an official release.

The recognition follows Delta Cargo’s third consecutive CEIV recertification earlier this year, awarded both at a headquarters level as well as for the Atlanta hub, the release added. “Since becoming the first global passenger carrier in the U.S. to receive CEIV Pharma certification in 2017, Delta Cargo has remained steadfast in our commitment to maintaining the highest standards within the pharmaceutical industry.”

In addition to the certification, Delta Cargo customers with temperature-sensitive goods transiting through JFK also benefit from state-of-the-art cooler – the largest of its kind with a total capacity of 16,000 square feet. The cooler is equipped with advanced temperature monitoring systems and direct ramp access, all meticulously designed to minimise transit time and provide optimal storage for temperature-sensitive commodities, including pharmaceuticals, the release added.

Delta Air Lines reported a 16 percent increase in cargo revenue at $199 million for the second quarter ended June 30, 2024 compared to $172 million in Q22023, “a significant improvement from prior trends.”

For the first six months of 2024, cargo revenue came in at $377 million as against $381 million in H12023. Total operating revenue was up seven percent at $16.6 billion for the quarter ended June and net income was down 29 percent at $1.3 billion.
