In 2019, Simple Flying reported that the 28-year-old plane does not exactly belong to Drake. It is more like a loaner aircraft that the celebrity is using for his travel. Drake’s private jet benefactor, Cargojet, an Ontario-based company, maintains the aircraft through an ambassador partnership with the star. According to the President of Cargojet,
Ajay Virmani,
“We are very excited to partner with Drake as our ambassador and assisting him with his logistical needs and requirements. We have had a lengthy relationship with Drake, and this partnership has grown organically between both parties. Cargojet and Drake are both great Canadian successes. We are thrilled to be partnering together.”
According to Drake,
“Supporting homegrown businesses has always been a top priority of mine, so when an opportunity came up to get involved with CargoJet, a great Canadian company, I was honored to do so.”
Ajay showcases a strong relationship with Drake, stating that the collaboration deal is beneficial for both parties. Ajay calls the company’s relationship with Drake a marketing “win-win” as it has been a goal-achiever for the company, He states,
“Drake has been a deliverer of value”.
A brief background
Ajay Virmani bought an insolvent freighter division in 2002, which would later become Cargojet. It is now the largest freight operator that primarily runs cargo services from its hub in Hamilton, Ontario. CargoJet and Amazon announced a deal in 2009, providing Amazon with the rights to purchase 9.9% of Cargojet in exchange for $400 million. The deal was fixed for the course of the following seven years.
The frieghter company also secured a contract with Purolator, another freighter company in Canada, worth $1.5 million. The deal encompassed overnight parcel delivery, benefitting both parties to grow their respective businesses. Rob Report states that the Canadian airliner offered Drake the $200 million private widebody jet to generate publicity.
