Delta Air Lines is planning to cut flights between Cincinnati (CVG) and Denver (DEN) beginning October 29, 2024, according to the aviation analytics company Cirium. However, the reason is still unknown. Simple Flying has reached out to Delta Air Lines for a comment.
Gradual reduction in flight frequencies
Cirium data shows that since August 2024,
Delta Air Lines
has been gradually reducing the number of flights between the two destinations. In August, the airline operated a total of 62 round-trip flights between Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) and Denver International Airport (DEN).

In September 2024, the Atlanta-based airline will operate a total of 60 scheduled round trips between Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) and Denver International Airport (DEN). The airline usually operates its Boeing 737-800 fleet on this route, providing a total of 9,600 seats this month.
Meanwhile, Delta will operate 58 round trips between the two cities, offering 9,280 seats in October 2024.
Current market
Currently, four competing airlines operate on the same route: Allegiant Air, Southwest Airlines, Frontier Airlines, and United Airlines. All of these carriers, except for Allegiant Air, have been offering more flights than Delta.
United Airlines is offering 120 round-trip flights between Cincinnati and Denver this month. The Chicago-based airline deploys its fleet of Airbus A320s and Boeing 737s. Meanwhile, Frontier Airlines will operate 75 scheduled flights, offering 14,610 seats this month. The low-cost carrier deploys both its Airbus A321s and Airbus A320s.

The low-cost giant Southwest Airlines will operate 68 flights between the two destinations, offering 11,900 seats in September.
Introducing new routes
Delta has been actively adding new routes to meet growing demand. Recently, the airline launched its first flight between Tulsa International Airport (TUL) and New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA).
The decision to start operations between the two destinations stemmed from the demand gap Tulsans were experiencing. According to Delta, New York remains one of the most in-demand destinations, with an average of 116 passengers flying between the two cities daily. Commenting on the announcement, David Hart, Delta’s Managing Director of Network Planning, said:
“Delta is proud to introduce this new nonstop service between Tulsa and New York City’s LaGuardia Airport, offering our customers in Tulsa a gateway to one of the most vibrant cities in the world. As New York City’s #1 carrier, we are excited to connect our LGA hub to the growing Tulsa market.”
Notably, Delta faces no competition as the sole carrier offering direct nonstop service between Tulsa and New York. The Atlanta-based airline will operate one daily flight year-round, deploying its fleet of 76-seat Embraer E175 regional aircraft. Delta’s regional aircraft is operated by Delta Connection carriers, including SkyWest Airlines and Republic Airways.
