HONOLULU (Island News) — An Alaska Airlines flight from Lihue to Seattle was diverted back to Honolulu Thursday night after four flight attendants became sick.

Alaska Air Flight 810 departed from Kauai at 11 p.m. Thursday night. Shortly after takeoff, the four flight attendants reported being nauseated from an unknown smell on board the plane.

Out of an abundance of caution, the flight was diverted back to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu.

Upon landing, the flight attendants — ages 59, 53, 31, and 28 — were all taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Neither the passengers nor the pilots reported any related symptoms. The cuase of the illness and smell is still unknown.

A spokesperson for Alaska Airlines issued the following statement on this incident:

“Alaska Airlines Flight 810 from Lihue (Kauai) to Seattle diverted to Honolulu shortly after departure at 11 p.m. local time last night due to our flight attendants reporting they weren’t feeling well. After the aircraft safely landed, all four flight attendants were transported to the hospital for evaluation. None of the pilots and guests on board required medical attention. We are working to reaccommodate our guests on other flights to Seattle later today. There were 119 guests and six crew members on the flight which was diverted. That aircraft is being flown back to Seattle today without any passengers on board for additional inspection.”
