American Airlines on Thursday announced dozens of new jobs coming to the Pittsburgh area.The company is hiring 500 new aircraft maintenance technicians, 44 of whom will be located at its maintenance base at Pittsburgh International Airport.American says this is an investment in the local maintenance base and a chance to expand the work that is already being done there.”At this location we do heavy maintenance on our Airbus fleet, and so the type of work that we do primarily here are mid-level, heavy maintenance checks, which lasts around 10 to 15 days, and we’re making a change in 2025 to add a heavier work scope into this facility,” said Greg Emerson, vice president of base maintenance for American Airlines.Two years ago, there were about 160 technicians employed at the local base. American says that number has doubled.Applications are being accepted on the airline’s website.
