Last year, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport
introduced the MSP RESERVE system to Terminal Two, the airport’s low-cost terminal. The system allows passengers to book a 15-minute time slot in the program’s dedicated security line. This system enables passengers without access to TSA Precheck to transverse through security much faster.
Big Upgrade
Since its introduction, the program has proved a hit and has seen over 50,000 security queue reservations. As a result, it is now being introduced into the busier and larger terminal, which serves mainline and international carriers, including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and Alaska Airlines, among others.
Scott Skramstad spoke to The Minnesota Star Tribune about the program coming to Terminal One:
“We have seen strong adoption rates and growth in the program and are excited to make it available to all MSP passengers by bringing the program to Terminal One. Reserving a place in the security line can reduce wait time and add more certainty and peace of mind at the start of a traveler’s journey.”
The RESERVE system becomes available for Terminal One on Tuesday, September 17th, and appointments are already open. The MSP RESERVE lane is currently only available at the North Checkpoint.
How it works
Passengers can access the system by visiting the Clear website or downloading the application. They’ll then have to enter flight details and details about the traveling party. The service will consequently allow them to schedule a slot and give them a QR code upon confirmation. Passengers can book their security time slot up to a week in advance, giving them plenty of time.
Passengers will have to show this QR code to security staff, giving them access to a special lane and quicker access to screeners.

Reservations for Terminal One can be made between 15:45 and 19:45 daily, and for Terminal Two, between 15:45 and 20:00 and from 12:00 to 16:00 daily.
More about the system
The system is designed by CLEAR, which also designed various reservation systems. The company facilitates enrollments in TSA Precheck and has implemented similar reservations at other airports. MSP is one of 18 airports worldwide that utilize the RESERVE system. These include Houston, Denver, Montreal, Phoenix, Seattle, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and more.

The company also offers memberships that allow passengers to skip the security line courtesy of a biometric scan. However, the MSP RESERVE system doesn’t require a Clear membership or a biometric scan to be used, making it more accessible to passengers.

Does TSA PreCheck Or CLEAR Provide A Better Airport Security Experience?
The US Department of Security offers several trusted traveler programs for low-risk passengers to save time in security. Its TSA PreCheck program allows passengers to go through security without removing their move shoes, laptops, liquids, belts, or light jackets.
The CLEAR Program (which is also an enrolment provider for PreCheck) saves passengers time in a slightly different manner by verifying the traveler’s identity biometrically at a kiosk before an agent escorts the passenger directly to the front of the PreCheck or Standard security lane.
The TSA claims wait times for PreCheck members are less than 10 minutes, while the time can vary with CLEAR. Many people also maintain memberships in both programs. Which program have you found saves you the most time at the airport?
