New Delhi [India], September 23: Union Minister of Civil Aviation Kinjrapu Rammohan Naidu on Monday said that India’s rapid growth in aviation demands robust safety measures to keep pace with its expansion. He held discussions on critical aspects of human factors leading to aviation accidents and how AI learning can mitigate human errors.

While addressing senior MoCA officials and senior officials of airlines at a seminar organised by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) he said, “Human factors play a crucial role in aircraft safety, from cockpit to ground support operations. Understanding these factors and addressing vulnerabilities is essential for aviation safety. The country has achieved a remarkable growth in the number of airports and fleet in the past 10 years.”

“Despite an impressive safety record, there has been a 10 per cent increase in human error-related incidents over the past decade. Factors such as pilot fatigue and communication breakdowns contribute to these incidents. It has highlighted the need for addressing human factors to ensure continued safety,” Naidu added.

During his address, he also focused on the use of AI to mitigate human errors and said integrating advanced psychological research in training programmes for pilots and air traffic controllers is crucial to prevent incidents. Advanced technologies like AI, machine learning, and data analytics can be combined with psychological research to optimise pilot behaviour and performance. This integration will enhance safety and efficiency in the aviation industry.

He also suggested enhancing safety through stress management. “The aviation industry requires robust stress management programs for a stress-free work environment.
