Due to the spread of deadly coronavirus in Wuhan of China, the number of suspended airlines which fly between Yangon and China has reached 12, according to Yangon International Airport.
The suspended airlines are: China Eastern Airline, 9 Air and JC (Cambodia), Qingdao Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, Hainan Air and Spring Air, Myanmar Airways International (MAI), Myanmar National Airlines (MNA), China Southern Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, Air China and Kunming Airlines.
Nine out of 12 suspended airlines are Chinese airlines. Most airlines have suspended flight operations till the end of February.
Airport Health Quarantine Team is carrying out thermal screenings on the passengers who arrive at Yangon International Airport, in cooperation with the airlines and relevant departments.
On 30 January, the WHO declared the coronavirus a public health emergency of international concern and urged the people to avoid all unnecessary travel.
As a measure to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus, Myanmar temporarily suspended the issuance of visa on arrival to the tourists from China, at Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw International Airport, according to the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 1 February.
