The Barringer Foreman Bridge over Ward Creek reopened Wednesday morning after being damaged by tree debris during a November 2023 storm.
The bridge’s closure has disrupted traffic on Barringer Foreman Road between Airline Highway and Highland Road.
Originally, heavy rains pushed tree debris against the bridge’s pilings, breaking one.
The piling has been replaced, and new concrete slabs replaced the cracked portions of the bridge deck.
The repairs, which were slated to take a full year, were completed two months ahead of schedule, according to a statement released by the Mayor’s Office.
“Reopening the Barringer Foreman Bridge two months early demonstrates our commitment to improving infrastructure and ensuring the safety and convenience of our residents,” Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome said. “I want to thank the dedicated teams who worked diligently to make this possible, and I appreciate the patience of the community throughout this process.”
The construction was completed by Brown Industrial Construction. A load rating assessment was completed by the Louisiana Department of Transportation, which certified it as safe for public use.
The construction company bid $484,671 in May to take the job. The city is still awaiting reports for the final costs.
