A United Airlines pilot treated passengers to a cheesy surprise when he ordered 30 pizza pies to a New Mexico airport following an emergency landing that caused an hours-long delay.
The pilot remedied an already “disheartening” situation and personally ordered the pizzas for the 150 passengers to the gate from a local restaurant – a gesture that “completely shocked” everyone, passenger Tanya Stamos told Fox News.
“Most organizations do not go above and beyond, but that captain did not hesitate,” Stamos told Fox.
“His display that evening is what we should have more of: selfless acts of love, compassion and humanity.”
A United Airlines flight scheduled to fly from San Francisco, California to Houston, Texas on Sept. 13 was forced to make an emergency landing shortly after takeoff to Albuquerque, New Mexico when a passenger collapsed in the bathroom and required medical assistance, Fox News reported.
The situation left 150 passengers stuck in the New Mexico airport for several hours awaiting accommodations until their flight was rescheduled and assigned a new crew.
Stamos said the airline initially gave passengers $15 food vouchers that couldn’t immediately be used with most of the airport restaurants already closed – so the pilot took matters into his own hands.
Stamos also shared the story on TikTok.
The gesture kept passengers full and happy until they were allowed to board a new flight around 11 p.m. — seven hours after landing – arriving safely in Houston around 2 a.m., Stamos told the outlet, adding that the pilot stood at the front of the aircraft thanking passengers for their patience as they deplaned.
“As it was my turn to exit the plane, I shook his hand and thanked him,” she said. “Everyone behind me then followed suit and shook his hand as well.”
A United Airlines representative praised the pilot for his generosity.
“We love to see our pilots go above and beyond for our customers when the unexpected happens,” the airline told The Post.
