Brussels Airlines Launches Public Voting for New Belgian Icon Design

Brussels Airlines is set to introduce a new Belgian Icon, following an enthusiastic response from the public to a call for design submissions. The airline received over 900 entries from people across Belgium, showcasing a rich diversity of creativity. An internal jury has narrowed these down to a top 15, and public voting has now commenced to select the final top five designs.

The airline expressed pride in the overwhelming participation, highlighting the varied backgrounds of the participants, which included professional artists and students from art schools. The submitted designs encompassed a range of themes, with cycling, art nouveau, Folon, Adolphe Sax, as well as popular cultural references like Lucky Luke and Marsupilami being particularly well-represented.

Voting is now open on the Brussels Airlines website and will remain accessible until October 11. After the voting period, the five designs that receive the most votes will be presented to an external jury composed of esteemed Belgian figures, including Alex Callier from Hooverphonic, Philippe Geluck, the creator of ‘Le Chat,’ and Gabrielle Szwarcenberg, the designer of Brussels Airlines’ uniform, among others. This jury will convene in Brussels on October 14 to select the final design, which will be kept under wraps until the aircraft is unveiled in spring 2025.
