Teruel Airport (TEV), also known as the Plataforma Aeroportuaria-Teruel, is located in the Teruel Province of Spain. Certified by the Spanish Aviation Safety and Security Agency (AESA) in February 2013, the airport was converted from a military base. With no passenger traffic at TEV, it serves as an aircraft maintenance and storage site for the TARMAC Aerosave, with a capacity of over 140 airplanes.
The COVID-19 pandemic saw the grounding of thousands of commercial airliners worldwide. TEV airport became one of the largest storage sites in Europe, with over 100 grounded aircraft parked there.
According to TARMAC Aerosave,
“TARMAC Aerosave offers aircraft & engine owners and operators parking space for more than 280 aircraft and 120 engines in Europe. We can accommodate all types of aircraft from regionals to A380 types. TARMAC Aerosave’s mission is to preserve and maximize the asset value during its storage period by applying rigorous Maintenance tasks.”
Airbus A380 maintenance hangars
The airport is synonymous with the largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380, thanks to its two dedicated maintenance hangers. The most recent hangar was opened earlier this week, making it a third maintenance spot for the type.
TARMAC Aerosave states that the brand-new €15 million ($16.5 million) hanger can fit a single A380 or four single aisle (A320-size) aircraft. Completed just weeks ago, it is the company’s seventh maintenance hangar, and fourth at TEV.

The other, large hangar, at TEV can accommodate two A380s, making it a favorable choice for customers for their superjumbo needs. The company also operates maintenance hangars at two other airports, both in France, namely Tarbes–Lourdes–Pyrénées Airport (LDE) and Toulouse Francazal Airport (QYF).
