Delta Air Lines has unveiled new cabin interiors across its fleet, with the first refreshed interior set to debut this fall. The new cabin will first be seen on a Boeing 757, followed by an Airbus A350 early next year.

Delta to roll out new cabin interiors

Ahead of its 100-year anniversary, Delta Air Lines
will implement a new modern cabin design to upgrade the onboard experience for passengers. While the seats and configuration will remain the same, the “trim and finish” refresh will include:

  • Fresh, breathable seating materials
  • A darker color palette
  • New decorative motifs and branding
  • Enhanced lighting system
  • Redesigned lavatories
  • Extra seatback storage compartment (in economy)
  • Branded cabin identifiers and full-sized dividers

Other upgrades will include memory foam cushions in Delta Comfort+ and the main cabin on widebody aircraft, while Delta One seats will switch from leather to a softer fabric. Mauricio Parise, Vice President of Customer Experience Design at Delta, commented,

“As we embark on our next century of flying, this refreshed cabin interior infuses utility with beauty to create an atmosphere that feels fresh, elevated, and timeless while reflecting our customers’ evolving tastes and expectations.”

The rollout will take place “over the next few years” or perhaps longer, so don’t expect your next Delta flight to feature the new cabins. The carrier has revamped one of its Boeing 757s already – this airframe is due to take flight within the next few weeks on domestic and short-haul international routes – and will retrofit one of its modern Airbus A350s sometime in early 2025.

Overall, passengers can expect a smarter and more relaxing journey with Delta, particularly with the new color scheme and lighting system. For example, mood lighting will change at different phases of the journey—according to Parise, this will include a “candlelit dinner” feel during meal service, a sunset-like glow before sleeping times, and warmer hues during boarding.

Centennial anniversary coming up

Delta is approaching 100 years in the business and its cabin refresh will ensure the carrier continues to deliver a high-quality onboard product in the years ahead. The airline was founded on March 2nd, 1925 under the name Huff Daland Dusters and would rebrand as Delta Air Service in 1929.

Having recorded a $1.2 billion net income during its recent Q3 results (in spite of the disastrous impact of the CrowdStrike outage), Delta says it is expecting a 30% growth in pre-tax profit for Q4, which would make for one of the most profitable financial quarters in the airline’s long history.
