On Wednesday, October 16th, Garmin announced its newest integrated flight deck system has been officially certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This means that the avionics system has received its Technical Standard Order (TSO) certification from the FAA, which is typically used for specific parts, materials, processes, and other applications for civil aviation aircraft. This new avionics suite, which is designated as the Garmin G3000 PRIME, is Garmin’s most advanced system yet.
The latest avionics system for Garmin is certified
Garmin revealed its newest avionics suite was officially TSO certified by the FAA on Wednesday, October 16th. This avionics suite will be utilized across a wide range of industries, including FAA Part 23 turbine aircraft, military applications, and even in the advanced air mobility (AAM) industry.

The Executive Vice President and Managing Director of the Aviation department at Garmin, Phil Straub, spoke about the new avionics system. Straub stated,
“Twenty years ago, Garmin redefined the general aviation cockpit with the G1000, our first integrated flight deck. Ten years later, we introduced the G3000, bringing the first touch screens to the light turbine cockpit, and revolutionary technologies like the award-winning Garmin Autoland. With over 30,000 Garmin integrated flight decks now in service, we are proud to introduce G3000 PRIME, the industry’s most intuitive and advanced flight deck to date.”
What is unique about the Garmin G3000 PRIME system?
The Garmin G3000 PRIME system incorporates several new improvements to the company’s existing integrated flight decks. The first major improvement was upgraded flight displays. These new glass flight displays are fourteen-inch primary display units. These glass displays are sunlight-readable and feature fingerprint-resistant glass.

Other performance enhancements to the screens include twice the processing power and higher refresh rates, as well as multi-touch capability, allowing the pilot and copilot to interact on screens at the same time.
The G3000 PRIME still uses a similar interface to previous avionics systems, which makes it easy for pilots to adjust to the new system. However, enhanced fonts and icons have been added to streamline its use. Other interface changes include the addition of both Primary Flight Windows (PFW) and Multi-Function Windows (MFW), which allows the pilots to drag functions to full-screen or split-screen.
Pilots can also utilize quick-access bars to use a wide array of functions, such as maps, traffic, weather, and charts easily. On the map screen, pilots have a range of options to add additional info to the screen. This includes additional airport, weather, or airspace information, which can assist pilots with adjusting flight plans.

The new integrated flight deck utilizes smart checklists that are automatically linked to crew alerting system (CAS) messages. Pilots are prompted to open a checklist when a CAS message is displayed, which allows them to streamline any necessary safety procedures if required.
