Hainan Airlines will launch a new route connecting Chengdu Tianfu (TFU) and Vienna starting 1 December, 2024.

The airline will operate three weekly flights – on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

After Shenzhen, Chengdu is the second Hainan Airlines destination from China with a nonstop connection to Vienna.

Hainan Airlines will operate a two-class Airbus A330-300 aircraft on the Chengdu-Vienna route.

These aircraft seat up to 32 passengers in business class, and up to 279 passengers in economy class, depending on configuration.

From Chengdu, the flights to Vienna will depart at 0245, arriving in the Austrian capital at 0605.

They depart back from Vienna at 1230, arriving back in Chengdu at 0510 the following morning.

The total number of passengers handled by Vienna Airport in the nine-month period from January to September 2024 increased by 7.2 per cent from the previous year to 24,199,913 passengers, or 0.7 per cent above pre-pandemic levels.

Last month, in September 2024, the passenger volume from Vienna to the Far East region climbed to 48,092 travellers, comprising a year-on-year increase of 22 per cent.

Hainan Airlines is in the process of rebuilding its European network, which will also see the carrier resume Shenzhen-Madrid operations twice a week from 19 November.

Moreover, the airline also will add a weekly Xian-Paris CDG service beginning 30 October.
