Supernova Airlines has hit another milestone in its efforts to develop air cargo operations in Europe with a key stamp of approval from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

The Ukraine-registered cargo carrier said in a recent LinkedIn post that it had secured “EASA approval as Third Country Operator (Part-TCO) in EU for our newly added 737-800BDSF UR-NPA freighter aircraft”.

Supernova said last month that it was prepared to carry out charter flights outside the EU, while the procedure for obtaining permits for flights in European countries and the US was ongoing.

The airline’s Boeing 737-800BDSF was added to its airline operator certificate (AOC) earlier this month. The first flight for the 737-800SF has already taken place.

According to current Planespotters data, the 737-800SF is the sole aircraft in operation for the airline, but data shows the airline previously had use of a ATR 72.

“Future fleet of Supernova is going to include at least two freighter wide-bodies to serve American and Chinese markets with reasonable frequencies and reliable back-up,” said the airline on its website.

Supernova Airlines was established on October 1 2021 and received a Ukrainian operator’s certificate on January 6 2023.

The airline, owned by New York-based logistics company Nova Global, expects to operate flights from Boryspil and Lviv international airports after the end of the Russia-Ukraine war, however, while the Ukrainian skies are closed for flights, air transportation will be carried out from the European airports closest to Ukraine.
