Major US and European airlines have approached Air India to develop generative AI chatbots that are alike the Indian carrier’s AI-powered bot, AI.g.  Around 97% of the customer queries are handled by this chatbot and without the assistance of human contact center agents. Air India’s advanced AI capabilities have drawn attention from international careers and are receiving requests to help them out in adopting a similar technology.

Air India’s plan for patent filing

The Tata Group airline is on the brink of launching a ”one-click booking” feature on its website and mobile app, marking its first-ever patent filing. The airline’s patent filing plan was revealed in a press briefing by Satya Ramaswamy, Air India’s Chief Digital & Technology Officer. He pointed out that despite sharing their information regarding their AI chatbot knowledge with others, no competitor has achieved a breakthrough similar to theirs. The airline is committed to innovation, Ramaswamy added.

All about AI.g chatbot

Some of the top aviation players from the US and Europe have shown interest and have asked to help them out in making their own generative AI chatbots. The Air India official stated that it’s about thought leadership. The Indian airline will be assisting these airlines with the development. Since the day of its launch in May 2023, more than 4 million issues have been resolved by the AI.g handles and about 30,000 queries daily are managed by it. As part of the airline’s major transformation strategy, Air India is showcasing itself as an AI-driven company at large.

Along with the chatbot, Air India also has more patents in the pipeline. The airline’s ”one-click booking” feature is all set to be launched in December. Moreover, the airline is also working to ensure the chatbot is safe and is not biased in its responses. Ramaswamy also informed that the airline is also working on the safety measures for the AI.g and is utilizing Large Language Models (LLMs) to provide precise and responsible service for its customers.
