Making the Croatian capital a pet-friendly destination

Croatia Airlines is joining forces with the Zagreb Tourist Board to make the Croatian capital a premier pet-friendly destination, offering new travel perks for passengers with pets through November and December.

Zagreb, 25 October 2024 – Croatia Airlines is extending its support over the next two months to the Zagreb Tourist Board initiative, which promotes Croatia’s capital as a pet-friendly destination.

During November and December, dog and cat owners travelling with Croatia Airlines can enjoy exclusive benefits and additional services, including an increased allowance for pets permitted in the aircraft cabin.

Instead of the usual two pets per flight, Croatia’s national airline will now permit up to three dogs or cats in the passenger cabin during this period.

Pet owners will also receive a 20 percent discount on in-cabin pet transport, alongside specially designed travel packages from Obzor Travel Agency, available in key source markets.

These packages include return flights, accommodation in one of four pet-friendly hotels in Zagreb (for stays of 2, 3, or 4 days), pet travel, and airport transfers to and from the city. Further details can be found on the Croatia Airlines website at www.croatiaairlines.com.

The segment of pet-owning travellers has become increasingly prominent in the tourism industry, with their unique behaviours, needs, and expectations shaping the travel market in distinct ways. Zagreb, with its abundant green spaces, pet-friendly venues, and welcoming atmosphere, is a city where pets can enjoy themselves just as much as their owners.

“We are pleased to join the Zagreb Tourist Board initiative to make our capital a premier pet-friendly destination on the global tourism map,” stated Jasmin Bajić, President of Croatia Airlines.

The pet travel sector has grown significantly in recent years, reflecting the growing awareness of pets as family members, and some research estimates its value has reached billions, with steady annual growth. Over half of European households now have pets.

Recognising these trends, the Zagreb Tourist Board has created a dedicated website, www.infozagreb.hr/en/pets-of-zagreb, which compiles essential information on the city’s pet-friendly offerings.

This spring, the Tourist Board launched a promotional campaign and specialised web pages, bringing together key resources for travellers with pets, including requirements and recommendations for planning pet-friendly trips.

The site includes a comprehensive listing of pet-friendly accommodations, dining options, veterinary services, shelters, dog parks, grooming salons, and even cultural institutions that welcome pets.

“Research shows that over 50% of travellers globally now bring their pets on holiday, and we are delighted to expand our promotional collaboration with Croatia Airlines, further highlighting our city as a welcoming destination for pet-loving visitors,” said Martina Bienenfeld, Director of the Zagreb Tourist Board.
