With the Northern winter fast approaching, airline planners and marketers have turned their attention to next year’s summer season. On Friday, American Airlines joined that line when it announced more flights from the United States to three popular destinations in Italy, starting in May and June 2025.
An expanding Europe network for Summer
For those who like to plan vacations and book early, American Airlines (American) has released details of new and expanded services for the 2025 summer season. On November 1, the full-service carrier announced it is expanding its European network next summer with additional routes from the US to the Italian cities of Venice and Naples while also adding a second daily flight to Rome.

More flight options from four US airports next year
- Adding to its presence in Naples, American will launch a new service from Chicago O’Hare International to Naples International Airport (NAP). The daily service will commence on May 6, 2025, and American will offer more seats to Naples than any other US airline. American will be the only airline flying nonstop from Chicago O’Hare to Naples in 2025, and the service will be operated with a Boeing 787-8.
- Starting on June 5, 2025, American will launch its first-ever nonstop flight from Dallas-Fort Worth International (DFW) to Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE). The new 787-8 service will complement the existing route from Philadelphia International (PHL), with American offering convenient one-stop connections to Venice from more than 230 destinations in North America.

- Travelers heading straight for Rome will also have more choices, with expanded summer service from Miami and Philadelphia. American’s new Boeing 777-200 service between Miami International (MIA) and Rome Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport (FCO) will now start on June 5 instead of July, as previously announced.
- American will also operate a second daily summer flight, commencing on June 5, from Philadelphia to Rome FCO, completing the existing year-round daily service. These routes will be flown with Boeing 787-9 and 787-8 aircraft.

American will operate more flights from Rome FCO to more destinations in the US than any other US carrier, giving customers unparalleled flexibility to choose a schedule that gets them where they want to go at a time that suits them. Brian Znotins, American Airlines’ Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning, said:
“As Italy continues to remain popular for summertime travel, American is making it easier than ever for customers to shop, dine or unwind in their favorite destinations. Whether reveling in the history of Rome or relaxing on a beach on the Mediterranean, American’s network will offer more ways for customers to plan their perfect itinerary.”
